That'll Teach Me...

Ye Gods I have been in pain today. I woke up at 6 am, slightly later than usual, came downstairs and made a coffee and then it started. Chest pain. Pain behind my ribcage. Tried not to panic, tried to be rational, no, you're not having a heart attack. Breathed through it. Then suddenly the pain began in my stomach. I nodded. Wind. I do suffer from trapped wind quite often, but it's always in my stomach, never in my chest area. I took a Colpermin, waited for it to die down. Waited... waited...

Took another Colpermin. Went shopping. The chest pain seemed to vanish, but every step I took was torture. Took another Colpermin (one usually does the job!) and had to rest this afternoon. The pain has eased off somewhat now but the noises my belly is making is unreal! At one point it sounded like a bath was draining, at another it sounded like machine gun fire, loads of pop-pop-pops.

So, I turn to Google. Can a cheat day/meal upset your stomach. And the short answer is yes. Yes it can. Hence the title of today's post. That will teach me.

It won't teach me. I've got a kebab lined up for my four stone weight loss.

Which leads me nicely to today's post. Homemade Chicken Doner Kebab, courtesy of RecipeTinEats, link to recipe here.

The words food porn get bandied around so much these days. And the definition of that is going to vary from person to person. Someone is going to call a scallop on two pieces of crossed rocket with a drizzle of jus food porn, but to me? It's good, no fuss, no faff, hearty food, that I will cook, enjoy and make again. And RecipeTinEats ticks all those boxes. It's one of very few foodie websites that I can lose myself in. Probably forty per cent of my internet bookmarks are her recipes.

I stumbled across RecipeTinEats and the lovely lady (Nagi) behind it by chance. I have made some great recipes from this site, including - get this - Sausage Curry? I mean, what's that about? So I Googled it (good ol' Google, what did we do before it?) and it turns out that in Australia, it's comfort food, probably in the way that a Shepherd's Pie is to us. I'd never heard of it before. I made it, and served it with mashed potato and it was to die for. That's going to be a meal that's in rotation this winter! She also has a really cute dog called Dozer. This site is well worth checking out. I made the recipe exactly to her specifications but I left the olive oil out of the marinade, and sprayed the kebabs with Frylight on top, and again when I turned them over halfway through cooking.

Ready for the oven...

Look at those beauties!

Cheers! (It's Pink Lemonade Lucozade Zero, honest!)

The lads cleared their plates in record time, both would definitely have it again. Mr G said that if he could buy it from a kebab shop, he would, and in my humble opinion? While not quite exactly what I was looking for in my eternal quest for an authentic UK kebab house Chicken Doner recipe (oh, it still goes on, trust me!), it is probably the best attempt, the best recipe and the tastiest recipe so far. This recipe is definitely a keeper.

And Mr G bought me a new Maneki Neko! Look at the cuteness, and even better, reduced to £2 in Primark!

Look. At. The. Cuteness

A girl can't have too many Maneki Neko. How many is too many, anyway? ;-)
